PCB Assembly Manufacturer in Penang (PCBA)

D3 Innovation (M) Sdn Bhd is a PCB assembly (PCBA) manufacturer in Bukit Mertajam, Penang, Malaysia. We assemble printed circuit boards using SMT and through-hole (THT) processes on 2 SMT lines, with AOI, X-ray, in-circuit and functional testing, for OEMs in Europe, the US and Asia. PCBA is part of our electronics manufacturing services (EMS), so your boards can go straight into cable assembly and box build assembly under one roof.

PCB assembly capabilities at a glance

  • Processes: SMT (surface mount) and THT/PTH (through-hole) assembly
  • Production: 2 SMT lines
  • Smallest component: 0201 (0.6 mm x 0.3 mm)
  • BGA assembly: yes, with X-ray inspection of hidden solder joints
  • Inspection and test: AOI, X-ray, In-Circuit Testing (ICT) and functional testing
  • Protection: conformal coating for boards used in harsh or humid environments
  • Workmanship standard: IPC-A-610
  • Quality system: ISO 9001:2015 certified (see Quality)
  • Order size: prototype orders accepted; minimum order quantity (MOQ) 10 units

How we assemble, inspect and test your PCBA

PCBA inspection is part of our standard process: assembled boards are checked with automated optical inspection (AOI), BGA solder joints with X-ray inspection, and assemblies are tested with in-circuit testing (ICT) and functional testing to your test specification.

SMT production line for PCB assembly at D3 Innovation, Penang

SMT assembly

Surface mount components are placed and reflowed on our 2 SMT lines. We handle fine-pitch parts down to 0201 (0.6 mm x 0.3 mm) and BGA packages, from prototype quantities to production runs.

Through-hole (PTH) component assembly

Through-hole (THT/PTH) assembly

Connectors, transformers, large capacitors and other through-hole parts are assembled for strength and durability, on the same board as your SMT components.

Automated optical inspection (AOI) of assembled PCBs

Automated Optical Inspection (AOI)

AOI checks component presence, position, polarity and solder joints on every assembled board, catching defects before boards move to test or box build.

X-ray inspection for BGA solder joints

X-ray, ICT and functional testing

X-ray inspection verifies BGA and other hidden solder joints that AOI cannot see. In-Circuit Testing (ICT) checks the assembled circuit, and functional testing confirms the board works before it ships or goes into box build.

PCB assembly in Penang for local OEMs

Our SMT lines are in Bukit Mertajam on mainland Penang (Seberang Perai), near the Prai and Batu Kawan industrial areas and linked to Bayan Lepas and Penang island by the Penang bridges. OEMs and product companies in Penang can work with our engineers locally on prototypes and first articles, then move to production with the same team.

From prototype to production

We accept prototype orders and production runs from a minimum of 10 units. A typical PCBA project runs: enquiry and NDA, DFM (design for manufacturing) review of your Gerber files and BOM, component sourcing, prototype build, then production. If you also need the board designed, our electronic product design team can take it from concept to a production-ready layout.
